Lamar 'heading in the right direction' with high ankle sprain

Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson said he's dealing with a high ankle sprain and is unsure if he'll play this week against the Bengals, but is "heading in the right direction" afte…

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson remains uncertain about playing Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals, saying the decision will come down to pain tolerance.

Jackson, who is officially listed as questionable, walked with a limp to the podium after Friday's practice in Owings Mills, Maryland. "Right now, I'm heading in the right direction," he told reporters, striking a hopeful but cautious tone.

The two-time NFL Most Valuable Player is working through a high ankle sprain he suffered on October 4 in a win over the Tennessee Titans. Jackson described the injury as excruciating, calling it "very, very, very, very, very painful." He said the swelling has gone down significantly since, but he still feels pain when he plants his foot. He has received treatment every day, iced the ankle repeatedly, and ran "a little bit" on Sunday and Monday before returning to practice on Wednesday.

If Jackson cannot go, backup Tyler Huntley will start for a third straight week. The Ravens' offense has struggled for consistency without its star quarterback, and the decision now looks like a game-time call.

Jackson suggested he will not rush his return, acknowledging he regretted coming back too quickly from a hamstring injury last season. He added that he does not need to be at full strength to play, so long as he can manage the pain.
