Source: Several teams interested in Colts RB Taylor as Indy mulls next moves

A source told ESPN that several teams would be open to trading for Colts running back Jonathan Taylor, though Indianapolis has not decided whether to move him after firing GM Chris Ballard.

Several NFL teams would be open to trading for Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor if the franchise makes him available, a league source told ESPN on Thursday, though it remains unclear whether the Colts are prepared to move on from their star runner.

The interest surfaces at a turbulent moment for Indianapolis. The Colts are still plotting their next moves after Monday's dismissal of general manager Chris Ballard, who spent 10 seasons in the role and was in the final year of his contract. The firing followed Sunday's home loss to the Tennessee Titans at Lucas Oil Stadium, a defeat in which the Colts surrendered a 13-point lead.

Taylor himself refused to engage with the speculation. The 27-year-old told reporters he had given no thought to his future, saying it would be a disservice to his teammates and supporters to look past this week's matchup with the Minnesota Vikings.

The numbers explain why rival front offices are circling. Taylor is the NFL's active leader in rushing yards per game at 89.9, and his 8,090 career rushing yards since entering the league in 2020 trail only Baltimore's Derrick Henry. A Ballard draft pick, Taylor went on to sign two contract extensions with the Colts.

Taylor may not be the only Colt drawing trade interest as the deadline approaches. Defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, 32, who becomes a free agent after the season, and All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson, in the final year of his contract, have both surfaced in trade chatter around a franchise in transition.
