Aisha Zaman, 27, has been charged with possessing a prohibited firearm after a police officer was shot in the foot on Angel Row in Nottingham city centre. The officer remains in hospital.
A woman has been charged after a police officer was shot in Nottingham city centre, in an incident that began when the officer approached two people at a bus stop on Angel Row.
Aisha Zaman, 27, of Collison Street in Hyson Green, stands accused of possessing a prohibited firearm. Nottinghamshire Police said the charge was brought following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service. Zaman has been remanded into custody and is due to appear before Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
The male officer was shot in the foot during the encounter with the man and woman at the bus stop. He remains in hospital, where he is continuing to receive treatment, and senior officers said the force is supporting him and his family.
Several other people have been arrested in connection with the shooting. A 35-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were detained on suspicion of possessing a firearm, while further arrests have also been made.
Det Ch Supt Rich Bull, who is leading the investigation, thanked the public for what he described as an outpouring of support for the injured officer. He said detectives were still following a number of lines of inquiry and appealed to anyone with information to come forward.
Police shootings are rare in England and Wales, where most officers patrol unarmed, and the case has drawn widespread attention to the dangers faced by frontline officers.
