Babydoll singer gives Wales its first UK number one in 15 years

Jamie Miller's viral hit 'Babydoll' gives Wales its first UK Number 1 single in 15 years after the Cardiff singer edged out Tate McRae to top the Official Singles Chart.

Cardiff singer Jamie Miller has reached the top of the UK singles chart with his viral hit "Babydoll", giving Wales its first number one in 15 years.

Miller, 29, who is originally from Pontprennau in Cardiff, narrowly beat Tate McRae's "Housewife" to claim the top spot, according to the Official Charts Company. He is the first Welsh artist to earn a UK Number 1 single since 2011, when Sian Evans featured on DJ Fresh's "Louder", and the first solo male Welsh artist to top the chart in 41 years, following Shakin' Stevens' 1985 festive hit "Merry Christmas Everyone".

"I don't even know what to say other than thank you so much for getting me Number 1, this is the biggest thing that's ever happened to me in my life," Miller told Charts.

The chart-topping moment caps a dramatic turnaround. Miller considered quitting music at the start of 2026, but "Babydoll", released on 7 August, exploded months later after actress Jennifer Love Hewitt posted videos featuring the track. The song sparked a TikTok dance trend, reached number one on the US iTunes pop chart and earned Miller his first appearance on the US Billboard Hot 100. It narrowly missed the UK top spot last week before climbing to number one.

Miller has also recorded a separate version of "Babydoll" with Off Campus star Antonio Cipriano, who told BBC Wales that Miller was "one of the best vocalists I've ever heard".

Elsewhere in the charts, Olivia Rodrigo's remix of "Expectations" with Chappell Roan and Ashe's "Stop The Wedding" rounded out the singles top five, while Fontaines DC scored their second UK number one album with "Dopamine Chamber", posting the third biggest opening week of 2026.
