Bruno Fernandes' Home Burgled While Man Utd Captain Was in Italy for Champions League Tie

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes had his home burgled on Wednesday night while he was in Italy for his club's Champions League match against Como.

The break-in at Fernandes' house in Cheshire happened while his family were not inside the property. Manchester United are understood to be supporting the 32-year-old midfielder following the incident, and BBC Sport said it had contacted Cheshire Police about the burglary.

Fernandes is the latest footballer to have his family home targeted while away with his team. Manchester City defender Ruben Dias and his former partner Maya Jama had their Cheshire home burgled in similar circumstances earlier this year, when Dias was at City's Champions League game against Galatasaray. Previous victims in the same area include Jack Grealish, Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez, underlining a long-running pattern of break-ins at the homes of Premier League players.

The Portugal midfielder has been at Old Trafford since joining from Sporting in January 2020 and has worn the captain's armband for United throughout a turbulent spell for the club.

United were beaten 4-1 by Como on Wednesday night. After the match, Fernandes publicly criticised manager Michael Carrick's tactics, though he is set to remain club captain and will not be disciplined for his comments.
