Items recovered in search for missing fishing boat and crew

Police Scotland's marine and dive unit recovered items belonging to the Kilda, which vanished off the north coast of Lewis on 13 October with Norman 'Tam' Murray and Murdo Morrison on board. The body of crewmate Douglas Craigie was recovered the following day.

Police Scotland have recovered items belonging to a fishing boat that vanished off the north coast of the Isle of Lewis last week, as the search continues for two missing crewmen.

Norman 'Tam' Murray, 40, and Murdo Morrison, 23, were on board the Kilda when it disappeared on 13 October. The body of their crewmate, Douglas Craigie, 49, was recovered from the sea in the early hours of the following day.

On Thursday, police confirmed that items belonging to the vessel had been recovered from an area pinpointed during the search. The operation was carried out by Police Scotland's marine and dive unit alongside partners, with a Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) exclusion zone in place around the search area.

Insp Neil Taylor, the local area inspector for the Western Isles, described the search as a complex operation and said officers were working with partners to get answers for the families. He urged the public not to attempt their own searches in areas that could put them at risk, as the MAIB exclusion zone is lifted.

A GoFundMe appeal for the families affected by the tragedy has raised more than £148,000.

The disappearance has been described as the worst fishing tragedy for a generation in the Western Isles.
