Caroline Flack's brother 'never recovered' from her death, inquest hears

Paul Flack, 55, died at his Norwich home in June; an inquest heard he "never recovered" from the death of his sister, former Love Island host Caroline Flack.

The brother of late television presenter Caroline Flack never recovered from her death, an inquest has heard.

Paul Flack, 55, was found unresponsive at his home in Norwich on June 21 and was later pronounced dead at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. His partner, Joanna Millington, told Norfolk Coroner's Court that he had struggled in the years since his sister's death. "We then went into lockdown for Covid," she said in a written statement to the court. "I do not think Paul ever recovered from this."

Caroline Flack, the former host of Love Island and The X Factor, died in 2020 aged 40, having feared press intrusion ahead of a trial in which she was accused of assaulting her boyfriend. An inquest later concluded that she took her own life.

The court heard that Paul Flack, a self-employed graphic designer, had sought help from his GP for low mood in August 2020, found work increasingly hard to come by as his industry declined, and was weighed down by his father developing dementia in his early 70s and dying at the start of this year. Millington described him as "everyone's favourite person" but said it had "taken its toll," adding there had been no suggestion he would harm himself.

Area Coroner Johanna Thompson recorded a narrative conclusion. A toxicology report found that Paul Flack's blood alcohol level was four times the legal driving limit. No family members attended the inquest.
