Dak, CeeDee: 2-4 Cowboys can still turn things around
Dak Prescott says the 2-4 Cowboys feel 'determined, and I would hope urgent' heading into Monday night's game at Philadelphia, with ESPN Analytics still giving Dallas a 68% chance to win the NFC East.
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott says the team knows time is running short to rescue its season — but with the NFC East still wide open, he believes the turnaround is possible.
Speaking in Frisco, Texas, on Friday, Prescott described the locker room mindset as "determined, and I would hope urgent" heading into Monday night's road game against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field. The Cowboys are 2-4 and riding a two-game losing streak.
Despite the record, ESPN Analytics still gives Dallas the best chance to win the division at 68 percent. The New York Giants currently lead the NFC East at 3-2-1 but are turning to J.J. McCarthy at quarterback, while the 2-4 Eagles will be without Jalen Hurts for the rest of the regular season because of blood clots. The Washington Commanders sit last at 1-4-1.
Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb was blunt about the opportunity. "Anybody can win this division, so why not us?" he said, adding the team is "very fortunate that everybody else is playing pretty bad."
The Cowboys' defense has struggled this season under first-year coordinator Christian Parker, ranking 25th in the league in one key category, and the offense has been unable to sustain a running game or produce big plays.
Prescott shouldered some of the criticism, saying some of it is deserved and that the team has to play better. Perhaps a hostile Monday night environment will provide the spark. "It's one of the few opportunities that you get that you feel like you're truly on the road," he said.
