Fever fire GM Cox, sources say, as front-office shakeup continues

The Indiana Fever fired GM Amber Cox on Friday, sources told ESPN, hours after president Kelly Krauskopf stepped down — a front-office shake-up after a 28-16 season and a first-round playoff exit.

The Indiana Fever fired general manager Amber Cox on Friday, sources told ESPN, hours after the team announced that president Kelly Krauskopf had stepped down — a sweeping overhaul of the front office of one of the WNBA's most closely watched franchises.

The shake-up follows a disappointing season in which the Fever finished 28-16, dropped to the No. 6 seed in the playoffs for a third straight year, and were eliminated in the first round by the Las Vegas Aces. The team entered the year with championship aspirations and fell well short.

In Cox's two seasons at the helm, Indiana went a combined 52-36. The team set a league record with the highest-scoring offense in WNBA history this year, but defensive struggles undermined the campaign. Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston all earned All-Star honors — Mitchell finished second in the league in scoring — yet individual success never translated into a postseason run.

Several of Cox's offseason additions, including Monique Billings, Myisha Hines-Allen and Tyasha Harris, failed to pan out as hoped. She had also signed Sophie Cunningham before the 2025 season.

Mel Raines, president and CEO of PS&E, praised Cox in a statement, saying she helped the Fever navigate "the seismic growth of both the WNBA and our franchise" and wishing her the best.

The front-office upheaval leaves big questions about the roster's future, with Mitchell — the franchise's No. 2 pick in 2018 — headed for unrestricted free agency. Cox defended the team's fanbase in her final news conference, insisting that negative portrayals of Fever supporters "have no basis in reality."
