Giants' top tackler Edmunds (chest) done for year, source says

Giants linebacker Tremaine Edmunds is out for the rest of the season with a torn chest muscle, a source told ESPN, with veteran Micah McFadden set to replace him.

New York Giants linebacker Tremaine Edmunds is out for the rest of the season with a torn chest muscle, a source told ESPN.

Edmunds, 28, was hurt on one of the final plays of Sunday's 34-27 loss to the New Orleans Saints. The team spent this week trying to determine whether he could manage the injury, but the middle linebacker has now been ruled out for the year.

He signed a three-year, $36 million deal with the Giants this offseason and quickly became the leader of the defense. The veteran led the team with 50 tackles and called the plays wearing the green dot.

Veteran Micah McFadden is expected to replace Edmunds in the middle and take over the green dot. McFadden has started 36 games in his career.

New York will also be without outside linebacker Chauncey Golston for the remainder of the season; he was placed on injured reserve.

The 3-2-1 Giants are dealing with a series of injuries on both sides of the ball as they prepare to host the 2-4 Houston Texans on Sunday, with cornerback Paulson Adebo expected back from a knee injury and tackles Andrew Thomas and Jermaine Eluemunor likely to play despite being listed as questionable.
