Ole Miss RB Lacy out after dislocating shoulder vs. Texas
Ole Miss running back Kewan Lacy is out for Saturday's game against Auburn after dislocating his shoulder in the loss to Texas, leaving Makhi Frazier to lead the Rebels' backfield.
Ole Miss will be without its star running back when Auburn visits Oxford on Saturday. Kewan Lacy, the Rebels' All-America rusher, dislocated his shoulder in the weekend loss to Texas and has been ruled out of the Auburn game, head coach Pete Golding confirmed on Monday.
Golding left little room for doubt about the junior's status. "Obviously he's not going to play this week," he said, adding that the staff will evaluate the injury before deciding on a timeline for his return. Lacy is still going through rehab and further scans, Golding said.
The injury is a fresh blow for a player who has already dealt with shoulder trouble this season. Lacy missed time earlier in the year with a different shoulder problem, and this latest setback comes at a difficult moment for the Rebels, who slipped to 5-2 after the defeat in Austin.
Lacy has been the engine of the Ole Miss ground game. The Dallas native has run for 388 yards and five touchdowns this season, a year after earning All-America honors with 1,567 yards and 24 scores on the ground.
With Lacy sidelined, Makhi Frazier is expected to step into the lead role. Frazier has rushed for 301 yards this season. Golding also said Shekai Mills-Knight, who has 42 rushing yards, "will have a real opportunity this week as well."
The timing is unforgiving. After Auburn, Ole Miss welcomes No. 3 Georgia to Oxford on November 7, and the Rebels will hope their top back is on the way back by then.
