Cleared Mayfield won't have WR Egbuka as target vs. Panthers
Baker Mayfield returns for the Buccaneers on Sunday against the Panthers, but top receiver Emeka Egbuka and right tackle Luke Goedeke are out, coach Todd Bowles said.
Baker Mayfield is back. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback will make his return Sunday at the Carolina Panthers following a three-game absence, coach Todd Bowles said Friday — but the Bucs will be without their top receiver, Emeka Egbuka.
"It felt good for him, so it looks like he's ready to go," Bowles said of Mayfield. The coach said his quarterback had a normal practice week as he prepares for Sunday's game.
Egbuka suffered a concussion and a foot injury in the Buccaneers' Week 6 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He never left the game to be checked for a concussion, and the injury wasn't identified until he was back in the locker room afterward. Bowles said the team couldn't pinpoint the exact play, though Egbuka took a particularly tough hit in the fourth quarter when Steelers linebacker Patrick Queen's shoulder collided with the receiver's helmet.
Starting right tackle Luke Goedeke will also miss the Panthers game, along with safety Antoine Winfield Jr., Bowles said. Goedeke suffered a calf injury in Week 6 and did not practice Wednesday or Thursday before returning Friday.
There was better news elsewhere: cornerback Benjamin Morrison, who missed the past three weeks with a quad injury, and running back Sean Tucker (quad) carry no injury designation for Sunday.
