Lamar suffers thumb injury on Ravens' first offensive play, won't return

Lamar Jackson's return from a three-game absence lasted just one play as the Ravens quarterback suffered a right thumb injury in Sunday's game against the Bills.

Lamar Jackson's return lasted all of one play on Sunday.

The Baltimore Ravens' star quarterback was ruled out for the remainder of the game at the Buffalo Bills with a right thumb injury, a cruel blow in his first appearance after missing the past three games with a high ankle sprain.

Jackson hurt his thumb on the Ravens' first offensive play of the afternoon at Orchard Park. While throwing a pass, his right hand was struck by the hand of Bills outside linebacker Greg Rousseau, who was attempting to knock down the throw. The two-time NFL MVP immediately looked down at his hand and walked to the sideline before heading into the tunnel with his right hand wrapped and supported by a trainer.

The hits kept coming for Baltimore. In the second quarter, backup Tyler "Snoop" Huntley — 2-for-4 for zero yards — left the game with a right toe injury and was considered questionable to return. That forced the Ravens to turn to third-string quarterback Joe Fagnano, an undrafted rookie out of Connecticut making his first regular-season appearance after an impressive preseason.

The injury nightmare spoiled what was meant to be a stabilizing afternoon for the Ravens, who entered at 4-3 and were trying to avoid a third straight defeat.
